Nothing New Under the Sun

SIGH!!!  Alas, Fall fashion has unveiled itself for the 2013 season, and I must say, it is a cleverly refurbished trip to things past. We all know that everything has a source, an inspiration that springs forth from some place.  Don't get me wrong, I adore a nostalgic approach to fashion,  especially when reinvention takes hold of the design and something truly remarkable occurs; the perfect juxtaposition, antiquity meets ingenuity.  Fabulous!

My disdain is presented when the same items are being rehashed over and over again, and the only thing innovative about them are what we are choosing to call them for the moment.  A prime example of this would be a midi skirt.  Am I showing my souls' age by thinking this slew of midi skirts we are seeing all over the runway this season are not the cleverly disguised tea-length frocks we were forced to wear as children and thoroughly dispised? Not a single stitch changed.

Has fashion become so complacent that all we do now is change the name of the season on the calendar and hope the masses don't notice that there is not one original idea in an entire collection?  Have we reached the pinnacle of fashion to where no more can be done, innovation is no longer up to the designer, but the consumer?

If that is the world we now live in I say EMBRACE it.  I say throw caution to the wind and go forth and forge your own fashion destinies.  Wear what you want when you want, and realize that whatever is being presented as "new" is nothing more than a wolf in sheep's clothing, and chances are, YOU ALREADY OWN IT!

Styling Print Pants

I saw these pants and thought, "why not?!"  Since I was probably born in the jungle, these are right up my alley!  I saw a semi challenge in these tribal print skinnies: How to wear them and still look polished, age appropriate, and sheek.  I rose to the occasion, steering clear of multiple trendy pieces, making the pants the focal point.  I added a structured, bright jacket, caged neutral heels, and a sand colored bag that would take me anywhere I needed to go.  The Multi-strand glass bead and metal leaf necklace was a last minute touch that really set it off, my signature pant cuff isn't too shabby either!  I made sure and kept all accents gold, including my sun-kissed glow;-)  This outfit is the PERFECT transition into Fall.  What would you have done with these pants?! Love Always, Queen Khira xoxo

I Wanna Be A Classic! (Re-Loaded!)

A post so nice, I had to do it twice!  Pick my brain all day long @ Myflylifeatversailles.blogspot.com.

Yep, that's my goal in life.  I want to be remembered as having style that traversed all eras in fashion.  I want any outfit I'm photographed in looking as current as if I had taken it only moments before.  Don't get me wrong, beautiful poetry is made when people take fashion risks and become pioneers,  I just do it the right way.  Make sure your wardrobe is diverse, but also ensure it will work for you for as long as you need it to.  A wardrobe should not have to be broken down and reconstructed from the ground up with every season change in the fashion world.  If you are purchasing the right things from jump street, all you will need to add are a few key things to get you through that season in style.  You never know when finances can change and you are only limited to purchasing maybe 3 new items, you need the wardrobe to support that, and, if done correctly, only YOU will know!

Think about serious multipurpose items that never go out of style, like black pencil skirts, the perfect fitting pair of indigo straight leg jeans, a great blazer, a crisp, well-fitting white button up shirt, and plain white tees. 2 pairs of shorts in black and white and a pair of brightly colored jeggings can do wonders for you too.  The only other item I would suggest you have is a well-made jean jacket that only gets better as it is washed.  Dresses are a wonderful and easy way to make an outfit, but every girl doesn't love a dress.  If you are a dress girl, something gray in an A-line cut to the knee is an easy, neutral alternative to black and can be worn anywhere. If I could only pick one dress for going out, I would go with something a little shorter, fits like a dream, and is in a can't miss color.  A jean skirt in a swing cut is a nice alternative to jeans as well.  The items you select is purely a personal preference, just choose items that will go the distance.  Let your shoes and accessories reflect the "moment".

Still a Barbie Girl, Huh?!

So, I see that there are still a VAST number of women in the world proclaiming that they are the embodiment (if not the inspiration itself!), of the timeless toy icon Barbie.  Ok cool.  I have no qualms with this, in fact, I can't think of a better fictional character to idolize at the moment.  She has it all, cars, homes, boats, a lavish designer wardrobe with an outfit for every occasion, has done it ALL, and still has time for a cute boyfriend, 2 little sisters, and countless friends!  She's fabulous, and who wouldn't want to be her?  My only issue is when all that fabulousness is overlooked, and we skip right to looking plastic with heavy makeup tattooed on our faces.  We somebody please get this mess together and represent the name as it should be?  Incorporate her fabulosity into your everyday life, don't let it consume you!  Above I have a few examples of just how to work it, not whip it!  Her glamour can inspire all, and her signature color, when worn the right way, can be so fresh and feminine.  Whether its a great pair of jeans, or that perfect pinky-bronze eye look with a hint of navy blue, just a touch will be all you need to embody the ideal.  After all, she is the whole reason I ever knew how great leopard works with hot pink!  Bottom line ladies, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!  The most we can hope for as mere mortals is to learn the ways of the Barbie Jedi and perfect them. Ladies First!

There is something about navy blue that makes me think sophistication.  Could it be the fact that my grandmother taught me at an early age that navy blue was the perfect ladylike alternate to black, or is it  because every time I wear it I feel presidential?!  Either way, it has worked some magic for me all these years!  In order to make it age appropriate, I generally like to pear it with something unexpected, like coral skinnies and a snakeskin bag.  However, keeping it First Lady appropriate is a must, so I added colorful beads as opposed to pearls, and matching stack heels.  This ensemble is perfect for those late summer lunches, and those days where you wanna strut around downtown exuding fabulousness!  Call your grandmother up today and let her know just how devilishly stylish she is, Thanks Nana!xoxo

It's a Jungle Out There: Urban Safari

It's, official, Summer is finally coming to an end(Sigh!).  My khaki walking shorts have made their first appearance, and I can actually say, I welcome the cooler temperatures!  Before we commence with the goodbye kisses and the tear felt farewells, lets celebrate all of the fabulous transition outfits that will come out of the changing of the season, especially all of the gorgeous animal print pieces we saw over the Summer.  This outfit is just one out of a dozen I managed to muster up, living in the south means warm weather till January, so making your favorite pieces fall-worthy can be a bit of a challenge, but a thin cardigan with the belt worn on the outside makes this meeting worthy in a snap!  What are some of you guys favorite transitioning tricks for Summer to Fall?
