Nothing New Under the Sun

SIGH!!!  Alas, Fall fashion has unveiled itself for the 2013 season, and I must say, it is a cleverly refurbished trip to things past. We all know that everything has a source, an inspiration that springs forth from some place.  Don't get me wrong, I adore a nostalgic approach to fashion,  especially when reinvention takes hold of the design and something truly remarkable occurs; the perfect juxtaposition, antiquity meets ingenuity.  Fabulous!

My disdain is presented when the same items are being rehashed over and over again, and the only thing innovative about them are what we are choosing to call them for the moment.  A prime example of this would be a midi skirt.  Am I showing my souls' age by thinking this slew of midi skirts we are seeing all over the runway this season are not the cleverly disguised tea-length frocks we were forced to wear as children and thoroughly dispised? Not a single stitch changed.

Has fashion become so complacent that all we do now is change the name of the season on the calendar and hope the masses don't notice that there is not one original idea in an entire collection?  Have we reached the pinnacle of fashion to where no more can be done, innovation is no longer up to the designer, but the consumer?

If that is the world we now live in I say EMBRACE it.  I say throw caution to the wind and go forth and forge your own fashion destinies.  Wear what you want when you want, and realize that whatever is being presented as "new" is nothing more than a wolf in sheep's clothing, and chances are, YOU ALREADY OWN IT!

Styling Print Pants

I saw these pants and thought, "why not?!"  Since I was probably born in the jungle, these are right up my alley!  I saw a semi challenge in these tribal print skinnies: How to wear them and still look polished, age appropriate, and sheek.  I rose to the occasion, steering clear of multiple trendy pieces, making the pants the focal point.  I added a structured, bright jacket, caged neutral heels, and a sand colored bag that would take me anywhere I needed to go.  The Multi-strand glass bead and metal leaf necklace was a last minute touch that really set it off, my signature pant cuff isn't too shabby either!  I made sure and kept all accents gold, including my sun-kissed glow;-)  This outfit is the PERFECT transition into Fall.  What would you have done with these pants?! Love Always, Queen Khira xoxo

I Wanna Be A Classic! (Re-Loaded!)

A post so nice, I had to do it twice!  Pick my brain all day long @ Myflylifeatversailles.blogspot.com.

Yep, that's my goal in life.  I want to be remembered as having style that traversed all eras in fashion.  I want any outfit I'm photographed in looking as current as if I had taken it only moments before.  Don't get me wrong, beautiful poetry is made when people take fashion risks and become pioneers,  I just do it the right way.  Make sure your wardrobe is diverse, but also ensure it will work for you for as long as you need it to.  A wardrobe should not have to be broken down and reconstructed from the ground up with every season change in the fashion world.  If you are purchasing the right things from jump street, all you will need to add are a few key things to get you through that season in style.  You never know when finances can change and you are only limited to purchasing maybe 3 new items, you need the wardrobe to support that, and, if done correctly, only YOU will know!

Think about serious multipurpose items that never go out of style, like black pencil skirts, the perfect fitting pair of indigo straight leg jeans, a great blazer, a crisp, well-fitting white button up shirt, and plain white tees. 2 pairs of shorts in black and white and a pair of brightly colored jeggings can do wonders for you too.  The only other item I would suggest you have is a well-made jean jacket that only gets better as it is washed.  Dresses are a wonderful and easy way to make an outfit, but every girl doesn't love a dress.  If you are a dress girl, something gray in an A-line cut to the knee is an easy, neutral alternative to black and can be worn anywhere. If I could only pick one dress for going out, I would go with something a little shorter, fits like a dream, and is in a can't miss color.  A jean skirt in a swing cut is a nice alternative to jeans as well.  The items you select is purely a personal preference, just choose items that will go the distance.  Let your shoes and accessories reflect the "moment".

Still a Barbie Girl, Huh?!

So, I see that there are still a VAST number of women in the world proclaiming that they are the embodiment (if not the inspiration itself!), of the timeless toy icon Barbie.  Ok cool.  I have no qualms with this, in fact, I can't think of a better fictional character to idolize at the moment.  She has it all, cars, homes, boats, a lavish designer wardrobe with an outfit for every occasion, has done it ALL, and still has time for a cute boyfriend, 2 little sisters, and countless friends!  She's fabulous, and who wouldn't want to be her?  My only issue is when all that fabulousness is overlooked, and we skip right to looking plastic with heavy makeup tattooed on our faces.  We somebody please get this mess together and represent the name as it should be?  Incorporate her fabulosity into your everyday life, don't let it consume you!  Above I have a few examples of just how to work it, not whip it!  Her glamour can inspire all, and her signature color, when worn the right way, can be so fresh and feminine.  Whether its a great pair of jeans, or that perfect pinky-bronze eye look with a hint of navy blue, just a touch will be all you need to embody the ideal.  After all, she is the whole reason I ever knew how great leopard works with hot pink!  Bottom line ladies, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!  The most we can hope for as mere mortals is to learn the ways of the Barbie Jedi and perfect them. Queen Out!xoxo

Ladies First!

There is something about navy blue that makes me think sophistication.  Could it be the fact that my grandmother taught me at an early age that navy blue was the perfect ladylike alternate to black, or is it  because every time I wear it I feel presidential?!  Either way, it has worked some magic for me all these years!  In order to make it age appropriate, I generally like to pear it with something unexpected, like coral skinnies and a snakeskin bag.  However, keeping it First Lady appropriate is a must, so I added colorful beads as opposed to pearls, and matching stack heels.  This ensemble is perfect for those late summer lunches, and those days where you wanna strut around downtown exuding fabulousness!  Call your grandmother up today and let her know just how devilishly stylish she is, Thanks Nana!xoxo

It's a Jungle Out There: Urban Safari

It's, official, Summer is finally coming to an end(Sigh!).  My khaki walking shorts have made their first appearance, and I can actually say, I welcome the cooler temperatures!  Before we commence with the goodbye kisses and the tear felt farewells, lets celebrate all of the fabulous transition outfits that will come out of the changing of the season, especially all of the gorgeous animal print pieces we saw over the Summer.  This outfit is just one out of a dozen I managed to muster up, living in the south means warm weather till January, so making your favorite pieces fall-worthy can be a bit of a challenge, but a thin cardigan with the belt worn on the outside makes this meeting worthy in a snap!  What are some of you guys favorite transitioning tricks for Summer to Fall?

A Return to Making Sense

I have written of this before in the past, but Praise God the fashion world has finally responded!  In the past years, we have seen fashion do some egregious things, and venture to some unspeakable places, all the while the truly fashionable relied on classic staples that kept them going till fashion found its way home.  Standing at the precipice of innovation, fashion has gotten so outrageous I dare say I was no longer inspired, but depressed.  I felt like the entire fashion world had gone MAD and there was no place for me to turn for comfort!

Well that heaven for a New Day!  I slowly but surely have seen the humble emergence of a return to dressing with a purpose, to clothes making sense again!  I long for the arrival of Fall and the use of a satchel as an everyday bag, as well as a navy peacoat with sturdy gold buttons polishing any look.  Regardless of your look or style, Polished should always be what you're going for.  These "trends" that have come about in most recent years make that impossible, as they were virtually unwearable, and worked with no item of clothing you previously purchased.  I'm SOOO sick of the disheveled, unkempt look!  Get up and get dressed with purpose, with intentions of ruling the world.  Welcome back fashion slaves, welcome back!

Red Pants For Real Life

Wearing Red ANYTHING is always a bold move.  It can be more subdued by introducing it into the outfit in something small, like a clutch, pair of glasses, bracelet, or a thin belt.  Shoes have a life of their own, so any red footwear speaks for itself.  So what happens when you find a stellar pair of red sailor pants that your wardrobe just can't do without??!!  Why you buy them of course!  Let me point out, however(disclaimer!), don't do this to yourself if you are super-endowed from the waist down!  The way you want to wear these is by adding simple, yet structured pieces with a laid-back vibe.  The way I see this bold statement is my alternate to black pants.  I paired mine with a sheer linen button up blouse that has the slightest of golden shimmer, a denim blazer adorned with a printed scarf, a pair of stacked platforms, and a snakeskin bag.  I felt Sex and the City meets Olivia Pope on her day off Sheek!  This works equally well with a fitted tee and sequin blazer for the evening.  How would you guys style these?

Holy Cow! Homecoming is just around the corner!

Is it just us, or is this summer flying by? The weather's been relatively great for Kansas. The nights have been cool enough to sometimes make us think fall is approaching, and guess what? It is approaching.
As thoughts turn to fall, so they also turn to school for many young people ... some with dread but for many with a spark of hope as they look forward to a new school year, seeing friends they've missed over the summer, getting back into the groove with all those activities, and getting that date lined up for Homecoming, the first big social event of the school year.
ETC also looks forward to this excitement as girls begin to think about what color, what style will make them look their very best for this fall occasion. ETC will be featuring many new dresses that have already begun to arrive and will continue to come into the store over the coming month. Be sure to check in soon to find that unique dress that will make you look your very best for your date and your friends!

Mineral Makeup Mayhem!

Its Fabulous!  Not only do I get to look flawless, but my skin gets to stay healthy?!  It's a win win situation!  If you haven't already discovered the marvel that is mineral makeup, by all means, please do!  Eyeslipsface.com has an entire mineral line that is super-luxe and super-affordable.  I myself am myself partial to the eyeshadows (of course!) but I am fast becoming a fan of their personal blend foundation and booster.  My next purchase will most certainly be one of their mineral glow kits, priced at $15 each, they include a natural hair kabuki brush, and one of those rich looking blushes in rose, which is priced at $5.  Living in the south will teach a girl all she needs to know about the benefit of powder makeup products!

Its a Fashionable Phone Party: Poshmark

Posh mark is SOOO cute!!  It's like Facebook for the fashionable!  It's a fashion social media tool that allows you to view, buy, sell, and trade various items of clothing right from your own closet.  You are able to throw "parties" for your items, inviting potential buyers.  I like how the events are broken down into categories and you're able to shop as if on a retail site searching for a particular item, without losing the intimacy of the private "party".  This site is amazing for the thrift and second-hand hunter, PLUS an easy way to clear out your closet for more amazing things.  Check it out girls!<3

Dreammoods.com!

Need a dream psychic?  Dreammoods.com is your one stop dream candy shop!  There's a dream dictionary for quick references and full analysis of dream themes.  It's easy to use and addictive!  Be careful, you just might find yourself jumping up every night just to find out what your dreams mean!

Eyeshadow Junkie!!

Oh How I Love Thee!!!!  Eyeshadow is my single most favorite item of makeup.  The more it reflects light, the more I love love love it!  I am secretly enamored with duo chrome.  I prefer larger palettes as opposed to the smaller ones you find in the drugstore with 4-6 colors in them.  I want the most variety possible for the most money.  With that being said, however, I  do have a certain weakness to single mineral shadows and pigments.  I have been doing some online window shopping for my next order, and I thought I would share some of the drool-worthy finds I came across.  I focused on Coastalscents.com since I have not ordered from them in several months.  Cash in on all the awesome deals they have going for the summer!

Dress Your Faceđź’™

I've said it before, and I'll say it again,  makeup is an accessory to your outfit.  It is the finishing touch on your perfect ensemble, and I'm sorry girls, its just too important to overlook.  It makes no sense for you to be dressed to a tee and have a face full of makeup that matches absolutely NOTHING you are wearing.  HELLO??!!  Please please please get your life immediately!  Please refer to my prior post concerning "Coordination" if the concept still escapes you.  I definitely admire your tenacity, however, if I wanted to view the world in technicolor, I would ask Joseph to borrow his coat, or Andy Warhol to lend me a pair of glasses!  Please take several steps back and realize that you are no longer being innovative, there is a huge cult following for Foolishness.  That is All!!!

You Shoulda Never Bought that, But...

So basically, someone buys an article of clothing they have absolutely NO idea what to do with it, but for some strange reason cannot part with it, the challenge is to make the item of clothing wearable.  Pictures can be emailed, posted to Twitter, or Facebook.  If any of my Peeps wanna give me any items personally, hit me up, you know how to find me;-)

My Face on the Tube!!

Yes folks, its true, there will finally be some audio-visual titilization, my blog has a boyfriend !  Starting in July, I will finally be launching my YouTube channel to coincide with my blog!  Yay!  Check me out, Check me out!  There will be a feed directly connecting you to the Queens Spot on YouTube from Nouveau, and will feature super-sized hauls titled Confessions of a Shopaholic, Real Girls Guide to Cooking, OOTDs, and the Real Life version of "Can Somebody Tell Me Why...", my favorite posts from Versailles.  I am super excited about this new venture and hope that its as exciting for you guys as well.  Let me know what you guys want to see, I am always open for suggestions, however, as always, I will not "bash" products.  If I don't discuss a particular product from the brands I rely on, it is safe to assume I do not care for it.  I am a firm believer in if you don't have something nice to say, remain silent!  I hope to see you all there!

Tag $20 Outfit Challenge

Yes sir, they took it here.  I love it.  The Queen came out like a champ.  This $20 challenge may have been easier than the face challenge!  This outfit is totally something that I would have put together with a much larger budget, and pocketed the extra for some new makeup and a slushy later!  Expand your horizons, don't be label whores, and be creative!  Anyone can do this.  Just imagine how much better your financial life would be by limiting yourself to outfits that cost $20 or less for an entire season.  I see a new iPad or possibly a pricey purse on your horizon!

I love so so many things from E.L.F., it was a challenge to narrow it down to my Ten most favorite.  These are products I use on a daily basis and they never let me down.  All products are available via eyeslipsface.com.   I would love to hear what products you guys use as go-tos  from E.L.F., I am ALWAYS down to try new things!

Clothing Grooming 101

Deep Breath Folks!  I need to do this, the world needs it!  Please please please start caring for your clothing!  It makes no sense to purchase an item of clothing with the intention of looking fabulous and neglecting to iron it!  OR not taking a lint brush to something in desperate need prior to wearing it!  Below I have listed a brief checklist (that is printable for your fridge F.Y.I) of things to look over prior to getting dressed, and a quick fix for popped buttons.   Don't worry, no needle and thread or double sided tape required.  Doing these few things if needed will drastically improve your overall appearance and have you looking like a star!

Summer Beauty on a Budget

Check out some super-hot summer beauty buys from my favorite brands to get your wallet through the summer months.  All items can be purchased by visiting the sites below, where there are even more fabulous finds to be had.  Happy Hunting Ladies, enjoy the weather

Flawless Summer Face, No Melting!

Powder products unite!!!  If you are a southern belle who does not own a powder foundation, Ima need to see your credentials!  There is no way I can believe you're a souther girl!  Take these simple steps when the weather begins to swelter, and your visage will remain strategically in place.  Remember the simplest of all beauty tips, keep up your water intake!  Doing so will help to regulate your body temp and reduce sweating.  Keep a pressed powder with you at all times for quick touch ups!  All products range in price from $1-3.00 and are available at eyeslipsface.com.

1.  Moisturize skin with an oil free moisturizer, allow skin to absorb
2. Apply concealer as needed.
3. If you insist on a liquid foundation, apply, let dry
4. Set face with powder foundation
5. Add additional layer of pressed powder
6. Voila! Perfectly matte skin ready to take on the day

Let's Coordinate!

Say it with me, Co-ordinate!  I don't know who decided it made more sense not to match, but ALL of you who decided to follow suit are not only wrong, but you ALL look especially dumb!!  Now, with that being said, come on back, sit still, and learn how the big girls do this!

Coordination is SOOO simple.  Start with a top with 3 colors in it.  Use the 1 color as the color of your bottom, steering clear of light and bright colors as the bottom option.  Next, choose which color you prefer in a shoe, brown or black.  If outerwear is apart of this ensemble, choose another color from your top to incorporate.  123 Presto!  Instant outfit. Of course this is the most basic of coordination lessons, but the principle remains the same.  If you don't know how to coordinate outside of these simple steps, then leave that up to the professionals and go for what you know.  Understand that just because you saw it that way in a magazine does not mean it should be literally translated to real life.  You will not, I repeat, will not look like you just stepped off the pages of Elle, you will look insane.  This is what the rest of the world sees when you do this, a LUNATIC!

The Lipgloss Jungle

With all the different brands, finishes, shades, consistencies, packaging and applicators out there, it really does feel like a jungle out there.  I am a lipgloss junkie.  The more brilliant the shine, the better.  Lipgloss brings a light to your face AND can double as certain other makeup products you may not have access to in a jam.  I love that you can find one practically anywhere and the low price tag is no indication of the quality.  This is the one item that is universally flattering and is an every-girl gift no-brainer.  Build your lip arsenal!  Take to the streets in the shiniest, most outrageous shade you can find.  Embrace your inner explorer, run lips first into the wild!

Check Your Footwork!

Don't make me have to hurt you!  I am sooooo tired of discussing how important it is to make sure your shoe game is on another level.  Not only in shoe selection, but proper care and storage as well.  I'm telling you right now, IDK how fine this man is, if his shoes and or laces are dirty and unkempt, he can FORGET about it!  It's the first thing you should notice on a person.  Your feet TELL your STORY.  I don't want to be in the presence of anyone and my feet are talking recklessly.  You shouldn't either!  This ideology is so important to me and my husband that he always has an extra pair in the car to throw on after work in case he has to make any stops and could possibly be in the presence of others.  Please don't sleep on how important this is!!!!

Make your feet your new face!!  Pay as much attention to your feet as you would your face before walking out the door.  Make sure your shoes are clean, well-fitting, and in good condition.  I feel like a Kindergarten teacher!!!  No, but seriously, it is a notable sign of maturity AND make the outfit, bringing a person to life.  Think of shoes as a way to convey to the world what you want them to know about your personal style.  Let me see it!  Let me see it!  Let me see it!

Top 5 Dead or Alive: My Fave Eyeshadow Palettes

YoyoYo!  The other day I was cleaning my brushes and started thinking, "hmmm, which are my favorite eyeshadow palettes of all time?  What do I continue to rely on to keep my eyes at their best?!"  Most Gurus I watch order their palettes according to what has been recommended or used in other videos to create looks, I can only attest to that to a certain degree....

As far as quality, I do like the opinions of Gurus, as far as color selection and brand, this is where I tend to differ.  The palettes I choose are based off of the colors provided inside.  I like A GREAT PRICE$, smooth application, high pigmentation, light reflection qualities,  variety in shades, and staying power.  If these things are present, you have yourself a buyer!  I don't play favorites, although I do have brands I COMPLETELY trust, and continue to give them my business.  Just realize a palette is a great and easy way to help build your collection, and help you learn what works for you.  Trust your own judgement, and experiment, experiment, experiment!
